QUESTIONS

Is the Signer Coherent and Aware?

  • Does the individual who will be signing the documents comprehend the contents and implications of the documents?
  • Can the Notary properly identify the individual appearing for notarization?
  • If the Notary cannot answer yes to both of these questions during your appointment, it is their duty to refuse the notarization.

Does the signer have valid identification?

  • The person who is having their signature notarized must have a current (unexpired) form of identification

OR the ID must have been issued within

the past five years.

  • Valid identification types include:
    • Drivers License or ID card issued by the CA DMV or another state
    • US federal passport or passport card
    • US Military ID
    • Canadian or Mexican drivers license
  • If a valid ID cannot be provided, the signer can prove their identify by Credible Witness, which entails:
    • Two witnesses who know the signer must appear before the Notary at the time of notarization
    • These witnesses must each have valid identification
    • They must not be named in or have a financial interest in the document

What if the signer doesn't have a valid ID?

Loan Signings

Signing loan documents for the sale, purchase, or refinance of a home can be a stressful situation. It's important to be in a comfortable environment with someone who can explain the documents in a way that puts you at ease.

Did you know that you can choose your own notary for real estate signings? If there is a title company involved in your transaction, they will offer to have you sign with them in-office or arrange for a mobile notary to meet you at the location of your choosing.

But how do you know that the notary you are assigned has training and experience with executing loan documents? I have completed over 500 real estate signings in the past 4 years. I am a member of the National Notary Association (NNA) and a Certified Notary Signing Agent through NNA. I am approved to work directly with Fidelity National Title, which means I am already familiar with our local escrow agents. Additionally, I am an Affiliate member of the Humboldt Association of Realtors. I would love to help you or your customers with their real estate transactions.

Estate Planning Documents

Estate Planning is essential for everyone. It provides peace of mind, ensures that your money and possessions are passed to the people or organizations you choose, and spares your heirs from the long probate process.

Some people think that if they aren’t wealthy they don’t need an estate plan, but everyone should make a plan regardless of their income. Planning doesn’t have to be expensive. There are several trustworthy online options for DIY estate planning, and attorneys are generally happy to help you with just one or two documents if that is all you need.

In addition to being a Loan Signing Agent, I am also a Certified Notary Trust Delivery Agent. This means that I have completed extensive coursework to learn how common estate planning documents work together and individually to provide peace of mind for their owner. Whether you need an estate plan or you are a local estate planning attorney, I would like to talk with you about how we can work together.

About Me

As a former librarian, I have always found it rewarding to connect people with the information they are seeking. I am extremely detail-oriented and I pride myself on providing customers with an excellent experience. Being a part of the Humboldt community is really important to me. I am interested in making lasting connections and forming relationships with the people I serve, rather than one-time transactions. I am always happy to answer any questions you have, and to share resources and information even if it doesn’t result in a business transaction.
